Must be nice to go home after a trip to NYC
Submitted by chuck on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 10:14Going home after a trip to New York City must be such a relief. One thing I have noticed is that people from other places seem to have a difficult time adjusting to the speed of things here. Going back to a slower, mellower pace must be really nice after visiting the Big Apple.
For those of us who like to live in high gear, though, there is no better place. The city stimulates so much in us! It is so sensual -- so full of movement, color, smells (not all good), sounds (again, not all good) -- and it all comes at you so fast.
No weather for walking
Submitted by chuck on Fri, 02/13/2009 - 12:11This wind is crazy! It's like a mini-hurricane... in February!
I'm sure glad that I give walking tours, not bus tours. The last thing I want on my conscience is global warming!
The economy is so messed up
Submitted by chuck on Fri, 01/30/2009 - 15:26I sure hope the tourists come back this spring. It's cool to see all the people from all over the world, especially in the springtime. Plus, the economy could really use the boost.
So come on, tourists! The Big Apple welcomes you with open arms!
NYC tour guide plans still on hold
Submitted by chuck on Tue, 01/27/2009 - 21:15January is too cold in New York City to guide tours, and there don't seem to be that many tourists around these days. That's normal for this time of year, but this January seems especially tourist-free.
It's to be expected, I suppose, in a time of global economic collapse. Anyway, spring will be a good time to guide tours. Maybe I'll give tours for free, just for fun, and let people buy me lunch or take me dancing or whatever in return. Those are the times we live in.
Of course, if people sign up for the scheduled tours in January and February, I'll gladly guide them, but I'll be surprised if anyone signs up.
Even plane crashes in New York City are larger than life
Submitted by chuck on Fri, 01/16/2009 - 13:27Yesterday's plane crash turned out well. What could have been a total tragedy turned into an historic event to be talked about by future tour guides! Like all great NYC stories, this one has a main hero, the pilot, and many minor contributing players like the nearby tugs and ferries that kept the plane afloat long enough to get everyone out.
Dang, I sure love this town.
I don't really have time for this.
Submitted by chuck on Wed, 12/31/2008 - 16:53It would be so great to devote myself to this project full-time, but I just don't have the time.
Sorry to anyone who wanted a tour but couldn't be slotted in for one. Eventually I'll find a suitable partner so that we can take care of everyone.
First tour goes well enough
Submitted by chuck on Sat, 11/22/2008 - 15:28Took a lovely group of English people on a nice walk. They saw City Hall, St. Paul's, The Brooklyn Bridge, FW Woolworth Building, Fulton St., the South Street Seaport, Federal Hall, The NYSE, Trinity Church and environs, Ground Zero, the Custom House, Bowling Green, Castle Clinton, and a couple of minor things along the way. I told them a lot of little tidbits about each stop. They bought me lunch. It was nice.
First tour scheduled for Monday!
Submitted by chuck on Thu, 11/13/2008 - 15:05Not charging for it or anything because I still haven't made it to City Hall to submit the licensing paperwork, but somebody actually found me through this site already. Can you believe it?
